     Jack Wilkerson, M.D. arrived as staff doctor number 45 and remembers his many duties included ER rotations, committee work and emergency instruction.

     The intensive care unit then was four beds in sections divided by curtains, but evolution has transformed every aspect of medicine. "We are a medical center now and that changes everything. We are on the cutting edge of medical developments."

     He believes technology will be the guiding force for the next 25 to 50 years. Still, the human touch will always be crucial. "We have to have our feet on the ground," he says.
