     For most of her 39 years at the hospital, Betty Bailey has worked as a nurse manager, but she always enjoys spending time with patients. In the early 1960s, taking a trip to the morgue was a strange experience that became a distinct memory.

      “The morgue was in the basement and every time you went down there the orderly would take a stick and reach up into the ceiling and turn some type of cooler on. Things like that now sound ancient.”

     Despite its lack of space and old-fashioned ways, the Fifth Street hospital had a special charm, she says. “There was a sense in that hospital that you loved it when you entered the doors.”
