Music Cataloging Procedures
Discarded/Withdrawn Materials (Monographic Items)

Note: These procedures are generalized to the Music Library from the Joyner-wide non-serial withdrawal procedures. NLN Dec. 3, 2008

(Note: These procedures do not apply to LPs which were never fully cataloged in Symphony and are discarded from the Music Library. For these items, perform a simple delete from Symphony and delete holdings from OCLC if needed. As of 11/23/2009 there are few/none of these left.)

1. Find the item in Symphony.

2. If you are deleting only some of the items attached to the bib record, simply delete the items and mark your statistics in the Music Library's Acquisition/Discard stats. If you are deleteing all items, proceed with steps below.

3. Check authorities following the "Authority Checking Instructions" on p. 3 & 4 of the Joyner-wide procedures.

4. Delete the item from Symphony.

4. Remove our holdings from OCLC. If you do not have Connexion access, note the OCLC # in the 001 or 035 field (usually starts with ocm or ocn prefix) and send the OCLC # for each deleted bib to the music cataloger for deletion from OCLC.

5. At the Music Library, keep stats in the Acquisition/Discard stats Excel Spreadsheet located on the departmental drive. The Assistant Music Librarian reports monographs withdrawn/discarded to Joyner Cataloging.

nln 12/3/08, rev. 11/23/2009. should be reviewed again within a year.
