Music VHS Videocassette Copy Cataloging
These instructions presume you already know how to catalog DVDs, and outline the differences between cataloging DVDs and VHS videocassettes.
007
007 $a v $b f $d b=black&white/c=multicolor/m=mixed $e b $f a $g h $h o $i k=mixed/m=mono/s=stereo, configuration of playback channels
For silent films, omit $f & $g ; $i will be n (not applicable)
300 Physical description. This is mostly rote. Example:
300 __ 1 videocassette (85 min.) : $b sd., col. ; $c 1/2 in.
The time will vary according to the actual time. $b may be sd., b&w ; (for black & white films) or whatever is necessary to describe mixed b&w/color films. This is OK as long as it is true. If there are multiple cassettes it will say "2 videocassettes", etc. MAKE SURE IT SAYS " videocassette" and not videodisc. If it says "videodisc", you have the wrong record!
5xx Notes. Same as DVDs, except:
538 VHS. (this note should be on all VHS videocassettes!)
Give the item & bib record to the music cataloger for review. After review, make edits as marked. If not using constant data record, manually change 040 to ERE4 and ad 099 VC-####. Write VC-#### and ECU on cassette with a silver pen. Search and overlay brief bib in Symphony. If there is no brief bib in Symphony (gifts will not have brief bibs) you can use the vidcas constant data record to create items. (Music constant data records are saved in //music/students/ConnexionSave/Constant Data Records.bibcd - copy them into your local constant data file to use them. Ask the music cataloger for help copying constant data records if needed.) 949 information:
