Music Cataloging Procedures
Statistics

The Music Library and Joyner Library as a whole keep statistics on the amount of items added to our collection. Keep your statistics on the Cataloging Statistics Sheet (Excel document) and give them to the Music Cataloger at the end of each month. (Or enter them yourself directly in Music/Statistics if you have access to the network drive.)

Explanation of Statistics:

New Titles (Copy): Number of bibliographic records you add to Symphony from OCLC.

Additional Volumes:Number of additional volumes. This is NOT a total. If a one-volume item is cataloged, no indication. If a two-volume item is cataloged, "one" is added to this column. If a volume is added to a pre-existing bib record, "one" is added to this column. When cataloging media, each seperate case or container is counted as a volume. When cataloging scores, a score and parts counts as one volume.

Additional Copies: For duplicate copies. As above, this is NOT a total. This is used for 2nd (or 3rd, etc.) copies of the same item.

The Music Cataloger reports the totals for each category to the Head of General Collections Cataloging on a monthly basis (by sending a copy of the spreadsheet).
