Scores and Parts -- Labels
Sometimes additional information goes below the call number of music scores. This information should be typed on the call number label, or it will be printed on the cover by the professional binder. The number of scores and parts corresponds to the information in the 300 field of the bib record.
For scores classed in M, add:
SCORE +
x PARTSor
x SCORES +
x PARTSor
x PARTS (for items that are only parts)
when the item consists of more than one piece. If the item consists of only one piece, do not add anything to the call number. Do not put a number of scores if that number is one. If there is more than one score, put "2 SCORES" or whatever is appropriate.
Generally, the number of parts should refer to the number of pieces that are included with the score, even if there are two pieces for a single "part." For example, a euphonium part might have 2 pieces (bass clef and treble clef), and these should be counted as "2 parts." When in doubt, refer to the description in the 300 field of the MARC record and use the same number.
For scores classed in ML and MT, add:
SCORE
or
SCORE +
x PARTS
if they are in scores format (Fixed field Type=c) or nothing if they are in books format (Fixed field Type=a)
Example label:
MusicLib

**Note that binding slips to be sent to pres/con will need to be filled out accordingly by the cataloger. Cross out SCORE and/or PARTS when these words are not to appear on the label.
