The DtSt Fixed Fields
The rules for using the DtSt field are available here. But here's an easy way to approach it for sound recordings that are in RDA.
If the item is a reprint/reissue, use DtSt: r
The first date will be the reissue date, and the second date will be the original publication date.
If it is not a reprint/reissue, read below:
If the recording date differs from the publication date, use DtSt: p
The first date will be the publication date, and the second date will be the recording date.
If you have no recording date, or if the recording date matches the publication date, read below:
If the publication date (264_1) is inferred from copyright date (264_4), use DtSt: t
The first date will be the publication date, the second date will be the copyright date. (In most cases, these two fields will share the same date.)
If there is no copyright date, read below:
Use DtSt: s (This will either match the publication date printed on the item, or you'll have to guess if there are no dates to use. You can guess a specific decade - for example, DtSt: s and Dates: 198u indicates that you believe the item was published
sometime between 1981 and 1989.
