three central Zaire flywhisks
ECU #L0096 B

These three flywhisks (including Pende) are of bound animal hair with beaded and woven fiber handles, using Kuba designs. The flywhisk is used in ceremonies as a symbol of power and authority, and can be carried only by chiefs. Held in the right hand, it is used as a flywhip and to amplify gestures in dances.
