Administrative History

Throughout the history of the university some records have been created that pertained to all divisions and departments of the institution. These records make there way to the University Archives from various places and are combined here for the ease of research. Records placed in this category include personnel files, photographs and records created by university committees and forums.

Series 1   Exempt from Personnel Act (EPA) Personnel File   1907-present

Exempt from Personnel Act (EPA) Personnel files from all departments, divisions and the Human Resources office. Records opened after the death of the employee or thirty years after termination of employment. Files include information regarding each employees tenure at the university. Some include biographical information, correspondence, clippings and press releases.

Correspondents and newspaper articles are listed in the Keyword for searching. Most correspondence relates to the hiring of the individual and salary increases.


Series 2   Photograph Collection   1907-present

Photographs, negatives and digital images created by and about the university. Use the on-line catalog for searching.

Subseries 1   Views   1907-present

Any campus view with more than one building, further subdivided into Aerial, Landscape, Panoramic, Davis Arboretum and Wright Circle.

Subseries 2   Buildings and Structures   1907-present

Images of individual buildings and structures on campus. Further subdivided by exterior and interior views and by date. Also includes the following subdivisions: Residence Halls; Facilities Services builidngs; Roads and Parking Lots; and Outdoor Structures.

Subseries 3   Portraits   1907-present

Images of identified individuals, further subdivided by categories, Chancellor, Faculty/Staff, Trustees, Student/Alumni and Dignitaries as well as by date.

Subseries 4   Groups and Associations   1907-present

Images of six or more people identified by association or organization, further subdivided by Faculty/Staff and Student/Alumni organizations.

Subseries 5   Athletics   1907-present

Images related to athletics and sports, subdivided by individual sport and date.

Subseries 6   Events   1907-present

Images depicting annual and one time anniversaries, banquets, ceremonies, conferences, dedications, entertainment, exhibitions or lectures.

Subseries 7   Department   1907-present

Images showing everyday activities of university departments.

Subseries 8   Fundraising   1907-present

Images of faculty, staff, students and donors engaged in fundraising events for ECU and charities.

Subseries 9   Logos and Symbols   1907-present

Images of logos, symbols and signs of the univeristy, departments and student organizations.

Subseries 10   Unidentified Photographs   1907-present

Unidentified images from all categories. This series exists only on-line.

Subseries 11   Non-ECU Photographs   1907-present

Images in the collection of people, places and events outside the scope of ECU.

Subseries 12   Collections  

Images of people, buildings, events taken by ECU photographers Forrest Croce and Lynette Lundin.
