Administrative History

The Eastern Area Health Education Center is part of the North Carolina statewide AHEC Program. These nine AHECs link North Carolina's four university health science centers, community hospitals and health agencies. The program is dedicated to improving the quality, quantity and distribution of health professionals.

Eastern AHEC serves a 23 county region in northeastern North Carolina. It is affiliated with the East Carolina University schools of medicine, nursing and allied health and with the schools of dentistry, pharmacy and public health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The 23 counties served are: Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Greene, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrell, Washington and Wayne.
