Administrative History

Wallace Wooles was the first to hold the office of Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences which originated in August of 1986. The office was combined with the Dean of the School of Medicine in October of 1990 and continued to serve two purposes for the next ten years. Wooles successor in the position was William Laupus. Laupus in turn was followed by James Hallock. The two offices were split again in 2001 when Ann Jobe took the position of Interim Vice Chancellor and Peter Kragel took the position of Interim Dean of the School of Medicine. At the end of 2001 Michael Lewis was hired as Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences.

School of Medicine yearbook first published in 1981 by medical students. The title Med Est was suggested by Tom Kelley of the Class of '83. Loosely translated, it stands for "Medicine of the East" in French or "to be medicine" in Latin.
