Administrative History

The News Bureau, as it is commonly called, was established in 1951 to write press releases for the university. It was run by English professor Mary Greene until her death in 1968. In 1990, the office moved out of the chancellor's division to Institutional Advancement with the formal title of News and Communication Services. In 2003 the office moved back into the Chancellor's Division. The department has expanded its role significantly and is now responsible for many publications and setting policies regarding the university's public image. Dates: 1951-1990; 2003-present
